What Is Walk & Talk Therapy?
Walk and Talk Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that involves walking while receiving therapy. You set the pace for the walk, so we can move as fast or slow as you prefer (as long as we can keep up!). Walking can be done for the entire session or just a part of it.
How can it help me?
Walk and Talk therapy is a unique way of conducting therapy sessions. Instead of confining therapy to an office setting, your session will occur while taking a walk. The counseling and psychotherapy part remains the same, with an additional element of relaxation, which leads to a deeper ability to process the experience in a low-pressure setting.
Benefits of Walk and Talk Therapy
Exercise helps manage symptoms of depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, and other health concerns.
2. Research shows that movement/exercise has a positive impact on brain function and the ability to learn.
3. Time in nature is proven to be relaxing and allows for an improved mood.
4. Walking therapy can reduce the feeling of pressure that is encountered during in-office sessions. Talking in a face-to-face setting can cause anxiety for some clients, but walking next to each other allows for a more relaxing interaction and often results in deeper engagement.
5. Walk and Talk therapy doesn’t always have to involve a lot of talking! It is an excellent opportunity to work with your therapist to rehearse and develop mindful awareness skills. (Learning to step under your brain’s racing thoughts and exist in the moment.)
6. Walk and Talk therapy can be used as a part of your exposure therapy program!
